One of Habitat for Humanity’s local fundraisers is an annual kite flying day at Todd Point in Fort Bragg. Yesterday, gray skies were ablaze with colorful kites, from fancy “professional” biplane kites to the paper variety children made just that morning as part of the event.

I wish I had brought my kite, but had forgotten that this was a free event open to all who want to just come out and play. The money raised comes from selling kites, cookies, hot dogs, soft drinks and other items.
Among the contributors were Village Toy Store in Mendocino (donated kites for sale) and Silver’s at the Wharf and the Mendocino Cookie Company in Fort Bragg (donated food).
I was told the event raises about $2,000. If you missed the event this year, you don’t have to wait to fly your kite. Todd Point, located on the south end of Fort Bragg behind the Emerald Dolphin Inn and Mini Golf, is a great wide open space perfect for flying a kit. And, when there is wind no where else, it seems to live here.
