For the 21st year, it’s Opening Night for the Mendocino Music Festival! There’s always a palpable sense of excitement in the air on Opening Night, because it means 2 weeks of music that we don’t normally get around here. Don’t get me wrong — there is a LOT of music up here. We have 2 opera companies, a community chorus (with 75 members), a symphony, and a host of smaller and more eclectic groups. But this is when musicians from the outside world filter into the area to make beautiful music for us!
The orchestra, directed by Allan Pollack, will be performing:
- Glinka: Overture to Ruslan & Ludmila
- Prokofiev: Symphony No. 5
- Tchaikovsky: Concerto for Violin & Orchestra
Daniel Austrich will be featured on violin.
Say “hi” if you come out to the show — you’ll find me and Nancy working the concession booths on behalf of Rotary.
