After days of rain, the sunshine was welcome Saturday as the 2007 First Annual Huckleberries and Hounds Festival brought out dog and dessert lovers. Dog games, a pet Halloween Parade and huckleberry dessert tasting drew enthusiastic audiences.
“One family came from all the way from the central valley to see the dog activities,” said Johanna Jensen, who helped coordinate hound events to raise money for MCDOG, the Mendocino County Dog Owners Group.
Dessert Contest Winners
The pies, cakes and huckleberry bars were all beautiful as Judge Sean Hogan, Brad Gardener and Mike Gibson sat down to evaluate entries and determine who would get the cash prizes for first, second and third place. And the winners were:
-Beth Chamberlain – 1st Place ($100): huckleberry-meyer lemon bars
-Heather Orsi – 2nd place ($50): Huckleberry cake
-Karen Emerson and Mark Cerinini – tie for 3rd Place ($25): pie
