He’s been a small town mayor, and no, he isn’t running for vice president. But Fort Bragg’s Dave Turner (former Mayor and now vice mayor) has invented a bed for women only, which he says “is a mattress that comfortably and intuitively recognizes the difference between straight lines and curves. “The FloBed protects sensitive areas, supports body contours, including her hips.” Read the rest of this entry »

As our reader’s know, we never post negative stories on our website. If we don’t like something we DON’T say so. IF WE DO LIKE it, we give high praise. So when it was pointed out that MendocinoFun.com may have missed a great pizza joint, worthy of mention along with D’Aurelios and Piaci in Fort Bragg, I realized they were right. When you see people streaming out of Frankie’s Pizza & Ice Cream Parlor on Ukiah, near Lansing, in Mendocino Village with ice cream cones and cups, you can’t help get drawn in. However, inside you find not only ice cream, but a bistro atmosphere where you’ve got many other food choices, small intimate tables, music on the deck many days and inside at night. Having ordered pizza for take out several times from Frankie’s, I can attest that the pizza maker is talented. The dough is made fresh daily and most of the ingredients are organic. Kudos to Ruth Rosenblum and her husband, S.A., who bought Frankie’s a little more than a year ago. Sure, go there for the ice cream, then order a pizza and come back later as they pull it fresh and hot from the oven — one of my favorites.

During the 1918 world flu epidemic, patients treated with osteopathic methods had far higher rates of survival, according to John Cottle, DO, at the North Coast Family Health Center on the campus of the Mendocino Coast District Hospital (MCDH) in Fort Bragg. Dr. Cottle, who has the same training as an M.D. — and more for his D.O.– will discuss “What is Osteopathic Medicine?” at the next MCDH Wellness Lecture Series October 29th. The lecture, in the hospital’s Redwood Room at 700 River Road, is from 6-7 pm and is free. Continuing Education Unit (CEU’s) also are offered.
