It was around 4 PM and a Northern Pygmy Owl landed in a tree around 50 feet from us. I was the sole birder and I was totally jazzed! The NPOW was gray, and it sat lengthwise on an alder branch, much in the manner of a nighthawk. I got great looks at the bird for several minutes before it flew out on whatever it's little daytime mission was. I won't forget that sighting any time soon!
