Melinda Ellis Cakes Created the Excellent Desserts for the Progressive Dinner!
The evening serving ladies worked hard, but were happy to clean up at the end!Finding money for California State Parks is increasingly difficult and requires some creative thinking. As a result, the Mendocino Area Parks Association, a volunteer organization that supports State Parks on the Mendocino Coast and mans the visitor centers at Mendocino Headlands State Park (The Ford House) and at MacKerricher State Park, held a progressive dinner: Navarro Vineyards champagne and hors d’ouerves at the Ford House in Mendocino Village, then dinner at the Mendocino Hotel with GoldenEye Migration (a great red), right across the street, and finally, dessert and a nice port at the historic Kelley House next door.
About 40 people attended the May 7 event at $75 / person. The atmosphere was upbeat, participants in a good mood and a lot of good conversations going on between the small group. Everyone I spoke to thought it was a great event and can’t wait for next year. The proceeds go to help restoration projects for the Ford House.

Mama Llama cuddles with her babyWe were delighted to open our February 2010 Sunset Magazine and discover one of our favorite coastal retreats – Glendeven Inn – was featured. Named as one of the top 20 destinations of the west, Glendeven Inn offers a mix of elegance and comfort that keep their guests returning year after year. Their meadow is dotted with llamas that they allow you to visit – very friendly indeed! Breakfast is made with eggs from their chickens and guests are encouraged to participate in feeding time. Both locals and visitors have discovered their cozy Wine Bar(n) or feasted on one of their elegant dinners served in their beautifully restored, historic farmhouse.

Bakery will offer patries, bagels, bread and pizza.
When Chris and Tricia Kump open the doors of their new European-style retail bakery October 14, customers will be transported back 100 years in time. And they probably won’t even know it.
Of course, history will not be on the minds of most locals and tourists when they begin lining up at 7:30 a.m. for freshly baked breads, bagels, pastries, and espresso, and at 11:30 for pizzas, soup, salads and no-wait sandwiches.
They’ll be lured by the culinary creations of Chris Kump, a Paris-trained chef, and Philippe Garcia, an artisan baker from Lyon, France.

I just found another great breakfast place on the Mendocino Coast: the Rollerville Café at the Lighthouse Pointe Resort. Located at Highway 1 and Lighthouse Road in Point Arena, 35 miles south of Mendocino Village and 15 miles south of Highway 128, it is family run, offers great breakfasts for about $10, and is the perfect place to fuel up before strolling next door in the Stornetta Preserve or visiting the newly reopened Point Arena Lighthouse museum and gift shop.
