39th Annual E. John Robinson Art Auction 1-4 pm Oct. 9

Some 60 pieces of art by many of the top artists on the Mendocino Coast will be auctioned from 1pm – 4 pm Saturday, October 9, at the Mendocino Art Center in Mendocino at the 39th Annual E. John Robinson Art Auction & Raffle. Come meet the artists just before the auction, from 11 am to 1 pm. Organized by the Mendocino Rotary Club, proceeds will fund scholarships for college-bound high school students and grants to local non-profit groups.

Auction art, including photography, sculpture, watercolors, oils and carvings, will be on display 10 am to 5 pm the week before the auction, from October 2 to 8. To preview the art, visit www.MendocinoArtAuction.com.

Celebrating the Marine Environment

Democracy at Sea 1, by Karen BowersIn support of “Gray Whale month” the Artists Co-op of Mendocino focuses on “Celebrating the Marine Environment” for its March show held through April 5. See watercolor paintings featured on the main show wall by Karen Bowers and additional art displayed on individual members walls. Our new works this month present local and worldwide marine life, seascapes, environmental issues, and responses to other sources of inspiration.
The ACM Gallery, upstairs at 45270 Main St., in the village of Mendocino, is open 10:30 AM – 5:00 PM daily except Tuesdays. Don’t miss the Second Saturday opening reception on March 13, from 3:30 to 6:00 PM. Along with the art, our second floor location offers incredible views and opportunities for whale spotting! Mendocino Coast Whale Festival Concert Series on March 6, 13

Saturday March 6th

The subdudes return to Mendocino County as the Mendocino Coast Chamber of Commerce and The Coast Mendocino County’s FM present the inaugural concert in the Mendocino Coast Whale Festival Concert Series. Saturday evening, March 6th, 8PM Cotton Auditorium , Fir & Harold, Fort Bragg. Tickets are $20, $30 and $40 ($5 more day of show) and are available at Harvest Market in The Boatyard Center, Out Of This World in Mendocino, and at the Chamber Office on Main Street in Fort Bragg. Tickets may also be purchased online through the link at kozt.com. There are no bad seats in Cotton, but all seats for this show are reserved seating, so purchase early to get where you really want to be….

And…if you’re in the mood, Chef Will Lee is cooking up an authentic Creole Dinner from 5:30 to 7:30 at Redwood Coast Senior Center, right next to Cotton. Only 200 can be seated for this one, so again, purchase early. Creole Dinner tickets available only at Harvest Market and the Chamber Office. Since your seats at Cotton are reserved, enjoy a nice dinner, maybe a little Mendocino County wine or North Coast Brewing Company beer, then walk a few short feet to Cotton Auditorium and the subdudes. The second weekend of Whales Festivals brings the second in the Mendocino Coast Whale Festival Concert Series. Mendocino Coast Chamber of Commerce and The Coast, Mendocino County’s FM, present Gene Parsons and David Hayes at Abalone Hall at Little River Inn. Show starts at 8:00PM, doors open at 7:00 with wine and beer available. Mendocino Art Center Rises Like the Phoenix

The Mendocino Art Center suffered a devastating fire back in November, but the center is reopening on December 17. Here is their press release. A highlight is the 3rd Saturday event on December 19, which includes a book signing by Bruce Levene of his history of the Art Center in its 50th year.

MENDOCINO ART CENTER RE-OPENS DECEMBER 17

Mendocino, CA – The Mendocino Art Center galleries will re-open December
17 with fun activities for the community scheduled over the weekend. The
galleries have been closed since a November 23 fire in the business
offices.

The Granite Avatars of Patagonia Presentation
Thursday, December 17, at 6:00 p.m., photographer Tom Reed will give an
insightful and fascinating behind-the-scenes slide presentation and answer
audience questions, revealing how he captured the images featured in his
Mendocino Art Center exhibit, “The Granite Avatars of Patagonia.”
Admission is free.

Free Holiday Celebration
Celebrate the holidays, the re-opening of the Mendocino Art Center and the
premiere of three new art exhibits at a free 3rd Saturday Artists
Reception, December 19, 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. This will be the final 50th
Anniversary Gala with raffle prizes, holiday carolers, hot cider and other
refreshments; the release of the Mendocino Art Center’s 50th Anniversary
commemorative book with a book signing with editor Bruce Levene; a Chili
Feed & Art Sale; and celebration of the Rebirth of MAC “Rising from the
Ashes.”
