May 18: Coastwalk
A day hike to highlight the proposed closure of state parks state-wide, including our own beloved Manchester SP. Meet at Kinney Road Day Use area at 10 am. We will shuttle to Alder Creek Road to hike from Highway 1 to the outlet of Alder Creek and along the beach and dune environment ending at Kinney Road. Easy hiking with an estimated distance of 3 miles and approximately 3 hours of walking, so please bring a sack lunch and water. Free. 800-550-6854

May 18: Free Locals Day at Mendocino Coast Botanical Garden
Free Locals Day, sponsored by Mendo Lake Credit Union and Ft. Bragg Electric, is a benefit for Fort Bragg’s Hospitality House. May 18: Spring Pelagic Trip

May 21: MUSE Dine Out
Muse (Mendocino Unified Scholl Enrichmen Program) is a non-profit 501(c)3 foundation established in 2001 by parents, teachers, and members of the Mendocino community. Since then, MUSE has made grants at all grade levels and in all academic areas. Have a fabulous meal by attending Dine-Out Night at the MacCallum House Restaurant in Mendocino. MacCallum House donates all of the proceeds to the non-profit organization it’s honoring for that evening. The MacCallum House (45020 Albion Street, Mendocino) will be serving their regular menu from 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Please make your reservation as soon as possible by calling 937-5763.

May 23-28: Miasa exhibit
Mendocino Art Center founder Bill Zacha and artist Toshi Yoshida formalized the sister city relationship in 1980. In 1992 Miasa and Mendocino started annual youth exchanges that have continued throughout the years. The Miasa exhibit coincides with this year’s exchange.

May 24: Gualala Fine Arts Fair

May 25: Ten Mile River Hike
The hike will go south from the river down the face of Ten Mile Beach to Lake Cleone (break for lunch) then south to Virgin Creek, and across the trestle to Glass Beach. See shorebirds and learn about the 15+ species of shorebirds, included in the new Audubon Watchlist. Bring water, food and binoculars. No dogs allowed in the Ten Mile Preserve. Hike is 9+ miles with some climbing. Meet 9 am at the Pudding Creek Trestle, Glass Beach Drive, Fort Bragg and shuttle up to Ten Mile River. Contact B. Bowen at casparbeck@comcast.net

May 30: Mendocino Film Festival

May 31: Dave Friedman Photography
A special exhibition in the Gallery Shop features still photographer Dave Friedman’s images from the Steve McQueen films “The Hunter” and “Tom Horn,” and Bruce Lee films, including “Enter the Dragon.” Friedman has just released a new book of his movie photography, “My Life in the Movies,” containing over 400 images, including the Mendocino-filmed “Summer of ‘42.”

June 28: 3rd Annual Goldeneye Winemaker Dinner
Goldeneye Winery in Philo for a delightful evening of delicious food served in a beautiful setting. This event benefits the Cancer Resource Centers of Mendocino County. June 28: Coro Release Winemakers Dinner
Little River Inn hosts what promises to be Mendocino County’s best party for winemakers and oenophiles alike. July 5: World’s Largest Salmon BBQ
Since 1970 the Salmon Restoration Association has hosted this fund-raiser with the help of local “celebrity” volunteers cooking up a storm. Live music, the aroma of grilled salmon, family and friends…life is good at the barbeque. Fort Bragg in the historic Noyo Harbor.
