9/11 Play To Benefit Local Firefighters
Contact: Mendocino Theatre Company at <mtc@mcn.org> or (707) 937-4477
The Mendocino Theater Company (MTC) is presenting the staged reading of “The Guys” by Anne Nelson, the story of two people struggling to express grief and compassion in the midst of catastrophe, two weeks after the 9/11 attacks on New York City. “The Guys” is based on a true story and will be presented for one night only, September 11 at 8pm, at Cotton Auditorium in Fort Bragg to benefit Fort Bragg Volunteer Fire Department, Mendocino Volunteer Fire Department, Albion/Little River Volunteer Fire Department, and the Mendocino Theater Company.
In the reading of “The Guys” Nick, a fire captain who lost most of his men that eventful day is given the task of writing eulogies for their memorial services. Joan, an editor, is helping him. As Nick recounts the fallen men’s virtues and foibles to Joan, they wend their way through the emotional landscape of grief, as they draw upon humor, the tango, and the endearing bonds of community. The presentation will feature two of Mendocino Coast’s finest actors, Susan Maeder and Carter Sears, and is directed by David Woolis.
“Shockwaves,” a monologue written and presented by coast resident Amy Katz is a moving, first-hand account centered around the events of the morning of September 11. Ms. Katz, then a teacher in class, was four blocks from Ground Zero.
Meet the director and the performers and hear their thoughts on “The Guys” and “Shockwaves at a special “Fill the House at Cotton Auditorium” Reception on Wednesday, August 29 from 5:30 to 6:30pm at the Mendocino Theatre Company (MTC), Little Lake St. in Mendocino.
