USCG Auxiliary Flotilla 87 will offer a two day Boating Skills and Seamanship Course for the general public on April 21 and 22 at the College of the Redwoods in Fort Bragg. The class runs from 9 am to 4 pm each day. The class fee is $45, which includes the textbook and student guide. Students who complete the class and written test will receive a certificate of completion. This year the Auxiliary will offer a free Coast Guard Vessel Safety Exam to all students.

The class is designed for first time boaters and as a refresher for more experienced boat owners. The course includes boat selection; safety equipment; boat handling; boat trailering; rules of the road; boat piloting; propulsion systems; and more. The class is taught by volunteers from local USCG Auxiliary Flotilla 87 in Mendocino County. On completion of the class, boaters may be eligible for a discount on their boat insurance premiums.
