California State Parks announces free, summer interpretive programs at MacKerricher State Park. These programs will be presented every week through September 2, 2007.
Marine Mammal programs are presented every Saturday morning at 11:00 a.m., beginning in the Visitor Center. Learn about harbor seals, sea lions, and the California gray whale. Marine Mammal programs will last as long as one and one-half hours in length.
Bird walks are presented every Sunday afternoon at 3:00 p.m., beginning in the Lake Cleone parking lot. Walk around Lake Cleone to see many different bird species. Binoculars are provided. The Bird Walks will last one and one-half hours in length.
Campfire programs are presented every Wednesday and Saturday evening at 8:00 p.m. in the campfire center. Docents will lead programs on the diverse natural and cultural history of MacKerricher State Park. Different topics will be presented throughout the summer. Campfire programs will last one hour.
Junior Ranger programs for children ages 5 to 12 are presented every Wednesday and Saturday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. in the campfire center [there will be no Junior Ranger program on Saturday, July 7, 2007]. Children can participate in a fun activity and learn about nature and the environment. Junior Ranger programs will last one hour.
MacKerricher State Park is located along California’s north coast on Highway 1, 3 miles north of the city of Fort Bragg. Day use admission is free. The park is open seven days a week for day use from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. More than 140 campsites are available for overnight camping.
