Mendocino Art Center Presents Murray-King Guitar Duo in Concert

Mendocino, CA - The Mendocino Art Center will present the Murray-King Guitar Duo in concert, Saturday, August 4, at 3:00 p.m., in the Art Center’s Main Gallery. Individually accomplished soloists with impressive music backgrounds, the husband and wife team of Troy King and Kathrin Murray will perform “Impressions of Spain,” a program of both solo and duo guitars, with pieces by Turina, Biberian, Granados, Pearson and Brahms.Formed in 2000, the Murray-King Guitar Duo has recently performed to critical acclaim in New York; Washington, DC; Honolulu, HI; and Cheltenham, England. “The Gloucestershire Echo” (England) proclaimed, “Their strong musical rapport was evident in their playing…atmospheric.”

The Murray-King Guitar Duo will be performing on AUgust 4.Murray, born and raised in Honolulu, has established herself as a passionately committed performer. Her first professional concerts given throughout the islands were on ukulele as a member of The Super Keiki’s. Murray has been featured on the BBC, the Dutch and Finnish Embassies in Washington, D.C., and has been a two-time recipient of the Levine Performance Grant. An active guitar soloist and chamber musician, she also teaches at McDaniel College in Westminster, MD, and the Bryn Mawr School in Baltimore, MD. She holds a Master’s Degree from the Peabody Conservatory of Music. Her debut CD recording will be released in the fall of 2007.

King regularly performs concerts throughout the U.S., Europe and Latin America. He has been heard on the BBC and frequently on National Public Radio in both the U.S. and Spain. He has released two solo guitar recordings, receiving unanimous international critical acclaim. He holds degrees from Cleveland Institute of Music, and University of Denver. King teaches classical guitar at Towson University in Baltimore, MD. Other honors include winning First Prizes at the Lamont Chamber Music Competition and the Montpelier Recitalist Competition, and competing in the advanced rounds at the IV Manuel Ponce International Guitar Competition in Mexico City.
