Artist Josie Iselin at Gallery Bookshop

Crafters, nature enthusiasts and book lovers, take note: Gallery Bookshop hosts a Beachcomber’s Art Party on Sunday August 12 at 3 pm. Artist and author Josie Iselin will share her new coffee-table book of images created from her grandmother’s shell collection, /Seashells/. Sandals preferred!

BYOBT (Bring Your Own Beach Treasures) or explore the bookstore’s collection of shells, stones and sea glass. Then, create your own unique object to take home — guidance provided, no experience necessary! Enjoy a slice of juicy watermelon or a glass of chilled white wine and browse Josie’s exhibit of art prints, then sit down for a fascinating look at her unique books.

Josie Iselin celebrates the diversity and beauty of nature with her exquisite portraits of seashells. Like her extremely popular /Beach Stones/ and /Leaves & Pods/,/ Seashells/ is not a field guide but an artful and informative portrayal of a beloved part of our natural world. The book balances the exotic with the familiar, from tropical corals and rare fossils to everyday clamshells and barnacles. In her introduction and captions, marine geologist and paleontologist Sandy Carlson introduces the reader to seashells in all their variety, explaining why they look as they do. Both an art book and a contemplation of nature, /Seashells/ combines aesthetic delight in natural things with scientific fact and philosophical wonder.
