July 4: Annual Celebration at Friendship Park
The year’s biggest fund-raiser will begin immediately following the Mendocino parade and feature three bands including Steven Bates, Rogerwood and Foxglove. There will be food, entertainment and children’s activities. Contact Ellen Anderson at 707-964-0897 if you are interested in renting a booth, volunteering or wish to donate to the park.

July 5: Big River Interpretive Walks
Free interpretive walks, sponsored by Mendocino Land Trust. Participants will learn about the cultural history of Mendocino, the Big River Estuary, the birds and animals of Big River and redwood ecology while walking down the Main Haul Road, enjoying beautiful views of the river. 10:00 am, weather permitting. Meet at the Big River Kiosk at the eastern end of the Big River Beach Parking Lot. Walks will last approximately one hour, are moderately paced and will cover approximately two miles. July 5: World’s Largest Salmon BBQ
Since 1970 the Salmon Restoration Association has hosted this fund-raiser with the help of local “celebrity” volunteers cooking up a storm. Live music, the aroma of grilled salmon, family and friends…life is good at the barbeque. Fort Bragg in the historic Noyo Harbor. From highway 1 north or south, look for the “BBQ Parking” signs. 11 am - 6 pm

July 5: 7th Annual - MacCallum House Block Party & MUSE Benefit

As a home health therapist, Nesta Rovina has seen and heard it all: a stroke victim who learned to roll off her bed at night to avoid getting caught in the crossfire of rival gangs and drug dealers; a man who lived off grass and bugs for a week while fleeing his native Laos; a sixteen-year-old gunshot victim who was left for dead by a man targeting prostitutes; a heroin addict who-when her left hand was amputated after becoming infected from frequent injections-began “popping” on her right hand. The Tony Award-winning San Francisco Mime Troupe skewers the electoral process in song and dance in their latest play, ‘Red State.’ Featuring a live band, this colorful musical explores what happens when a small town finds itself at the forefront of a political battle. Take advantage of this daylong workshop with Ron LeValley, outstanding world-traveled photographer and biologist. Ron will review basic photographic principles, emphasizing those that have been modified by the use of digital media. August 7: Ecological Staircase Hike
California State Parks free interpretive program. Learn about the different geological terraces that have been formed over hundreds of thousands of years along the Mendocino Coast. After hiking along the coast, there will be a short drive to the Ecological Staircase trailhead. Moderately strenuous 5 mile roundtrip hike (approx. 4 hours total). Meet at the Jug Handle State Reserve parking lot on the west side of Highway 1, about 3 miles south of Fort Bragg at 10 am. Bring a lunch and water for the hike. California State Parks free interpretive program. Learn about the different geological terraces that have been formed over hundreds of thousands of years along the Mendocino Coast. After hiking along the coast, there will be a short drive to the Ecological Staircase trailhead. Moderately strenuous 5 mile roundtrip hike (approx. 4 hours total). Meet at the Jug Handle State Reserve parking lot on the west side of Highway 1, about 3 miles south of Fort Bragg at 10 am. Bring a lunch and water for the hike. On Friday, February 29 the Mendocino Stories and Music series features Hit and Run Theater in the Garden Room of the Mendocino Hotel. Hit and Run veterans Jill Jahelka, Doug Nunn, Kathy O’Grady, and Steve Weingarten will be joined by Steve Antler and musician Laura Derry for an evening of improvisational comedy.
